The Social Security Administration (SSA) provides both insurance and “life line” cash and health care benefits to millions of Americans; many of whom have disabilities.  While SSA benefits do help, they were never intended to make a recipient “whole”.  In order for a person with a disability who receives the average SSDI benefit, or the maximum SSI benefit to NOT live in poverty requires a work effort.  However, the “urban myths” and incorrect information provided by many sources, give recipients the sense that ANY work will cause an immediate termination of benefits and healthcare.  NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH!

Work will raise most recipients out of poverty even if one is only working on a part time basis.  Given that many recipients have severe disabilities, working to full capacity is the goal.  The benefit is not living in poverty.  Learn how work can improve the life of recipients with disabilities.  Learn how Work Incentives truly work.  Learn how hard it is to lose healthcare and, finally, learn where to find your clients the assistance they need to build a return to work plan.
