The Yang-Tan Institute conducts research and provides outreach via training, technical assistance, and dissemination of disability statistics. We analyze data and produce descriptive statistics from national surveys and administrative records of federal disability programs. We work with organizations to help them maximize their use of disability statistics. Our web site, www.disabilitystatistics.org, helps policy makers, service providers, researchers, educators, the media, and people with disabilities and their families find relevant and timely statistics about disability.

Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Disability Demographics and Statistics (StatsRRTC)

The StatsRRTC conducts research and outreach projects - training, dissemination, technical assistance and utilization - to bridge the gap between the sources of disability data and the users of disability statistics. The StatsRRTC, funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, is a five-year collaborative effort with the Cornell Institute for Policy Research, the Cornell Department of Policy Analysis and Management, the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), the Center for an Accessible Society, InfoUse, Mathematica Policy Research, the Urban Institute, and the Institute for Matching People and Technology.

Utilization and Analysis of Census 2000 Data to Inform Disability Advocacy and Employment Policy

This Field Initiated Research Project utilizes the Census 2000 to disseminate local level disability statistics and analyzes Census 2000 Long Form data to understand the factors that contribute to the "disablement process" and the employment of people with disabilities. This project is funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research.

Monitoring Students with Disabilities Using National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Data

This project analyzes the data used to calculate NAEP (also known as The Nation's Report Card) to identify patterns and trends in the composition and inclusion of children with disabilities in standardized examinations. It is funded by the National Center for Education Statistics.
